FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How long has your company been in business?
A: We have been serving Halton and Peel communities for over 25 years. We opened The Carpet Palace in 1993 - In 2010 we completely rebuilt our showroom, tripling it in size! We now offer the best products in the flooring industry.

Q: How much lead time do you require if we need flooring installed in our home?
A: It's a good idea to give us as much time as possible to order your product in and set up an installation date for you. We usually book out approximately 3 weeks, therefore a 3-4 week allocation will be just fine. If you need an ASAP installation, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Q: Do you have any specials available in your store?
A: Yes, we always do our best to keep as many products in-stock as we can so that they are available as quickly as possible and at the best prices. Buying flooring in bulk allows us to pass our savings down to you!

Q: What selection of area rug sizes do you carry in your store?
A: The sizes that we offer in-stock are:
3'x5'
4'x6'
5'x7.5'
6.5'x9.5'
8'x11'
9'x12'
10'x13

Q: Can you also provide custom area rugs?
A: Yes, we provide quite a few options for rugs that can be made in virtually any size. This will allow you to go as large as you want in size! If you are interested in this method, please allow approximately 3-4 weeks from order to delivery, as the custom sizing and manufacturing can often take a little bit longer.

Q: What should I do to maintain my hardwood flooring?
A: We carry several different hardwood flooring cleaning products that will assist you in keeping your floors looking like brand new. Avoid using any sort of wax/polish oil without first contacting us or the manufacturer to see if it is recommended. Those types of products often leave a filmy residue on the top layer of your hardwood, making it very hard to keep looking clean. Remember to sweep (soft bristles) and vacuum regularly and use any of our recommended spray cleaners for a deeper cleanse.

Q: What should I do to maintain my new carpeting?
A: Carpet is relatively easy to maintain; you need to make sure that you are vacuuming regularly to avoid the process of dirt/debris wearing down the fibers of your carpet. From there, spot clean any areas that need it and avoid professional cleaning TOO often, as this will eventually wear out you carpet as well. Try to have your carpet professionally steam-cleaned only when it is truly necessary. Make use of the well-working carpet stain removers that we carry here in-store.

Q: What should I do to maintain my new tiles?
A: Tiles are usually a very easy product to maintain; if you are dealing with a porcelain tile, you can vacuum and mop regularly or even use a tile-specific cleaner (which we carry here in-store). If you are dealing with any sort of natural stone, make sure you are sealing it as needed... in very heavy traffic areas this could mean multiple times per year (you can avoid this process by choosing a porcelain over a natural stone).

Q: What is luxury vinyl? What are the benefits?
A: Luxury Vinyl Tile and Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVT/LBP) are made up of synthetic resin or plastics that make for an incredibly tough finish. Luxury vinyl showcase premium product visuals, warranties, and installation methods, while also being 100% waterproof and scratch/dent resistant. This type of flooring is available in both the wood plank look and tile/natural stone look.

Q: What type of flooring can be installed in the basement?
A: There are several options for flooring in your basement, giving that the flooring is installed the correct way. Options available are: engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl, cork, laminate and porcelain tile/natural stone. Carpet is another fantastic option for basements that keep them cozy and warm! Please let us know if you have specific questions regarding flooring in your basement!

Q: Why are there gaps in my hardwood/laminate flooring?
A: Gapping that occurs naturally in hardwood flooring occurs only for one reason: lack of humidity. It is very likely that your home is far too dry and that the planks are actually shrinking, causing the gapping. Similarly, when your home is too humid (too much moisture in the air), the planks can actually swell up and cause buckling in the floor. To fix these issues, make sure you're using a humidifier in the winter and dehumidifier in the summer, maintaining a relative humidity around 35%-55%.

Q: Do I have to install an underpad with my carpeting?
A: It is not necessary to use an underpad with your new carpeting, however it is definitely recommended. The use of a good quality underpad will not only keep the floor warmer and more comfortable for your feet and back, but it will also dramatically increase the life of your carpet, as it actually protects the backing of the carpet.

Q: How can I fix scratches in my hardwood flooring?
A: Scratches in hardwood flooring can be treated in a couple different ways. If you are dealing simply with surface scratches, you can use a stain-marker that matches your hardwood flooring and just simply dab the scratched area and wipe off the excess. If it is more of a deep scratch that you are dealing with, it could be a good idea to use a wood filler that is stainable... that way are able to fill in the hole/scratch and then stain it to match you floor.

Q: Is refinishing my hardwood flooring a good idea?
A: Refinishing your hardwood flooring can be a great money saver if they are in good condition. Often, we are unable to refinish existing hardwood floors because they are not in good enough condition (usually older homes). Furthermore, if you are looking for a long-term solution, new pre-finished flooring is a better option. The reason for this is the harder finishes available from the factory in pre-finished hardwood flooring. The tough finishes from the manufacturers with newer technologies cannot be replicated when finishing floors on-site.
